"email@example.com" and "firstname.lastname@example.org" first appeared around September/October 1996. Hillyard had opened a new MindSpring account in his wife's maiden name (Kay Ball) after his first was cancelled for violating MindSpring's appropriate use policy. (I know this because a little bird, who no longer works at MindSpring, told me after leaving their employment). Another MindSpringer noticed Hillyard-sign in posts to rec.sport.football.college in October, and dropped a note to MindSpring. They cancelled the account a few days later. There was a mailbox named email@example.com, and an alias of firstname.lastname@example.org, but I don't know the real main ID on the account.
Because I didn't know about these IDs until later, I don't have most of the original messages--just a few messages wherein others quote Hillyard's posts as fritzy.
